CITIES

The cities which conserve most Roman remains are Italica, the first colony founded by the Romans on the peninsula, Emerita Augusta (Mérida), which was the capital of Lusitania, Tarraco (Tarragona), which was the capital of the Tarraconensis, and other cities such as Lucus Augusti (Lugo), Segobriga (Saelices, Cuenca province), Saguntum (Sagunto) and Caesar Augusta (Saragossa), among others.

SILVER WAY AND VIA AUGUSTA

The Via de la Plata (Silver Way) connected the west of the peninsula from Italica, passing through Emerita Augusta, Salmantica and other locations to Asturica Augusta (Astorga, close to León). The Via Augusta ran from Gades (Cadiz), passing through Córdoba, Castulo and the Mediterranean coast to Emporion and the Pyrenees, where Hispania connected with the rest of the Roman Empire.
